Contact Gonzo – Mayfest

A group of performance artists who first won recognition with their YouTube videos, which led to festival and exhibition invitations both in Japan and overseas, Contact Gonzo have developed a unique, improvisation-heavy show that can look like anything from street fighting to contemporary dance. They tour the world bringing there unique combination of martial arts, physical movement, improvisation and artistic values to different locations, collaborating with local artists and the environment.

I performed as both a musician and as part of the collective physical theatre performance. Some music was composed and some improvised for the performance on Celtic harp, piano and sound scape with effects pedals. The production was part of Mayfest and co- produced by Theatre Orchard and MAYK

Bianco – No Fit State, Australia

Bianco (2012-2017) was an immersive promenade show, created by the team behind ImMortal and tabù, under the direction of Firenza Guidi. Originally commissioned as a site-specific performance for the Eden Project in 2012, it became NoFit State’s longest-running and most successful large-scale production, giving the company premieres in Australia, China and the US and winning awards, prizes and critical acclaim along the way.
In NoFit State signature style, Bianco brought together designers, musicians, composers, riggers, engineers makers, costume, lights and set designers to create a sensory and sensual environment, inhabited by some of the world’s best circus artists.
I performed in Bianco at the Perth International Arts Festival as a multi instrumentalist, replacing the previous musical director who played a similar set of instruments: piano, accordion, percussion, electric and acoustic guitar, ukulele and vocals.

Sanctum – Theaster Gates, Bristol

Sanctum was a public artwork project created by Theaster Gates for the city of Bristol. A remarkable structure arose from within the bombed-out remains of Temple Church in Bristol. For 24 days, 24 hours a day, the site was transformed into an intimate place of listening, in which to hear the city like never before.

I performed in the space several times as a solo artist and with various musical projects I am involved with. I was also commissioned by the organisers to form a ‘super group’ of Bristol musicians and a set of music to close the project.
