OUR LAND SOUNDTRACK

Listen to Full Soundtrack

Classical Selection – The Landowners

A classical aesthetic represents the landowners and the accompanying shots of their grand estates, featuring original chamber music themes for strings and piano.

Folk Selection – Right to Roam campaigners

Various folk ensembles, ranging from small trio line ups to a 10 piece band, represent the Right to Roam campaigners and shots of protests and mass trespasses in vast landscapes of England.

Ambient Soundscape Selection

Throughout the film there are many moments which require gentle soundscapes to keep the documentary flowing, these where all created from the full ensemble and heavily feature overlapping improvised textures.

About the Soundtrack

The Our Land soundtrack was recorded by a 12 piece chamber ensemble curated from composer Daniel Inzani’s trusted collaborators.

The decision to create a bespoke acoustic soundtrack, with no samples of any kind, was an early and deliberate choice to reflect the natural essence of the land, especially given that most the instruments used are crafted from wood..

Inzani, whose work focuses on live ensemble recordings, handpicked trusted musicians from his circle of regular collaborators; players familiar with his distinctive approach that blends contemporary scores with group improvisation. Many of the musicians also perform in his live shows and feature on his acclaimed 2024 triple album Selected Worlds.

The music shifts in style in order to represent the different characters of the film with a string quartet at the heart of the soundtrack, you can listen to different selections here:

Through organised ‘mass trespass’ events, the Right to Roam movement sets out to increase public access to nature, but finds itself in conflict with England’s landowners.

Our Land seamlessly juxtaposes the two sides of the debate around our access to nature, giving voice to the different perspectives: those fighting for greater access to the countryside and the landowners who claim to be stewards of the land. Blending history with an eye on the future, Our Land charts the conflict, exploring the complex issues of access, custodianship and conservation. Articulately presenting arguments from both sides, the film challenges age-old beliefs around property that have shaped our relationship with the land for over a thousand years. And as the battle for nature continues the film asks the vital question, who truly has the right to roam?
